As part of the order Endopterygota, beetles under go metamorphosis. The regular metamorphosis is made up of four stages: egg, larva, pupa, and imago.
The first step is for a male beetle to search for a mate. They often find one by their food source. Without a first date or any courtship behavior, the male mounts the female and fertilizes her eggs. The female then will lay her eggs in a safe place. Inside of each egg is a very tiny larva. Once they emerge from their egg, the larvae immediately begin to eat and grow. This stage is where most development takes place. Once the larvae fully mature, they begins to pupate. They stop eating and build cocoons. After a few months, they emerge from their cocoons as adults.
