The turtle mount
Turtles will make clucking noises, head bob, and dance to attract the other's attention. The male turtle mounts the female, getting on top of her shell from behind her. He may grab on to her shell with his claws, twist his tail around hers and even bite her head. What matters is that their tails meet. The male deposits sperm from his penis, which is located in his tail, into the female's "cloaca," a small opening in her tail. Males have been known to stay on top of the females for as long as an hour. Before she lays her eggs she will dig a hole on the beach and release them through the cloaca. The female will lay anything from 2 to 100 eggs.
