REPRODUCTION
Reproduction, a fundamental feature of all known life, is the biological process by which new offspring individual organisms are produced from their parents. All organisms exist because of the process of reproduction, whether it be sexual or asexual. Asexual reproduction, which is not limited to single-celled organisms, is the process of reproducing without the involvement of another individual from that specific species. Because asexual reproducers depend of mutation for DNA variations, all the members of that specific species have the same vulnerabilities, ultimately making them more prone to common diseases or infections. Sexual reproduction, however, requires the presence of two individuals or gametes, each of them being of the opposite sex. Life without reproduction has been studied by scientists for many years, and it was concluded that the last form of life to walk the earth while not reproducing lived about 3.5 billion years ago. Today, reproduction is necessary for any form of life.
