Incredible!
Male octopi often compete to get the attention of female octopi. Once the female decides she's interested, the male inserts an arm covered in rows of sperm into the females oviduct to fertilizer her eggs. The male dies shorty after. The female then lays her eggs and protects them until after six months when the eggs will hatch and the octopi swim to the the ocean surface. She then dies too. The octopi experience a planktonic stage before going back into the ocean depth.
